The interior of the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo is where the designers took their biggest risks. Rather than having traditional doors for access into the two-seat cabin, the car has a large glass top that opens forward to allow access to the carbon monocoque body.

Floating Holographic Display: The curved, transparent holographic display that is placed just above the racing yoke steering wheel is a remarkable feature. It projects the speed of the vehicle, the level of battery charge, and lap times directly onto the driver’s line of sight, so it appears to float in mid-air as the race car is driven.

Completely Vegan: To meet the environmental goals for future cars, the interior does not utilize any leather materials. Instead, the interior utilizes lightweight sustainable materials, such as recycled textiles, carbon fiber, and polished titanium accents.

The Bucket Seating Geometry: In order to reduce weight as much as possible, the bucket seats will be molded into the carbon monocoque chassis. Instead of moving their seat, drivers will be able to position their feet on the pedals and adjust the steering column as necessary. Front Fascia & Aerodynamics: The front of the car has an extremely hyper-purist look that conveys the Porsche design language. The iconic quad-L.E.D. headlights are mounted at an extremely low point on either side of the massive integrated air intakes, which direct air flow directly through the body of the car, creating downforce at the front of the car.

The Wheels & Footprint: The wheels of the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo is completely unique to the car because this car has no limitations comparable to those imposed by traditional road-legal vehicles. These are extremely large diameter wheels created with minimal materials that promote airflow to the brakes and at the same time provide maximum reduction in unsprung weight. These wheels sit under extremely aggressively flared fenders that have been designed to accommodate the wheel size and width specs of this car.

Active Rear Aero: The back of the car uses a complicated active aerodynamic system instead of a classic fixed wing in the traditional concept of cars. The deployment of flaps on the rear of the car is controlled by your speed and braking force in order to balance drag at top speed with the amount of downforce being generated when you brake hard. The rear aesthetic is completed with an ultra-slim LED light strip that directly refers to the light signature used in contemporary 911 and Taycan models.

The Vision GT’s electric powertrain consists of an 87 kWh battery and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. The maximum output is 820kW (approx. 1099hp) with a maximum torque of 1090 Nm (802.9 lb-ft).

Porsche did not stop short with a simple system; the Vision GT comes with an overboost and launch control feature to achieve a peak output of 950 kW—roughly 1274 hp. No error here! The Bugatti Chiron gets roughly 1500hp with a quad-turbocharged W16 gasoline engine. The Vision GT is very close to having the same bhp using only electric power.

Even though the car has a hefty 87kWh battery, its range isn’t something to be overlooked. Porsche estimates a range of roughly 500km (310mi) according to WLTP standards, which is remarkable for a car aimed at hypercar-level performance.

Real-Life Model: The Physical Car That Shocked Gamescom 

Porsche Vision Gran Turismo – The twist is that Porsche built this version of the Vision Gran Turismo just like most manufacturers have chosen to develop virtual concept cars.

In August 2022, Porsche held the official unveiling of the physical, rolling chassis of the vision gt. The car was built without a functioning powertrain because the vision gt is an all-electric vehicle in the video game but was built according to the design and dimensions of the virtual car.

The next part was amazing. Belgian street artist Vexx transformed the original all-white physical model into a colorful work of art over 3 days while it was live-streamed at the event, making the all-white “Oryx White” model into a mobile artwork. The unique hand-painted version was then made available within Gran Turismo 7 as an unlockable livery.

The physical model is now on permanent display at the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, meaning that the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo is now one of the very few virtual-only automotive concepts to find a home within a real-life automotive museum.
