Rolls Royce Phantom 2018 – Interior’s First Look

Rolls-Royce’s eighth generation Phantom, a blend of heritage and contemporary style is a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation and the evolution of its iconic vehicle.

Rolls-Royce’s design boss, Giles Taylor, highlighted the Phantom’s need for modernization at a reveal event, aiming to give the car more energy.

The Design

A raised grille and new protruding lines across the hood are two evolutionary design updates for Rolls’ flagship, the Phantom. The headlights have a new square-shaped lighting pattern, and the Spirit of Ecstasy is positioned roughly half an inch higher. The back of the Phantom has a rectangular taillight design, a bigger license plate holder, and a sloping, coupelike roof. In order to give the bodywork a more seamless appearance, the design also incorporates 22-inch wheels and a new line across the side.

The Engine

With a new 6.75-liter V-12 engine, the Phantom’s power output has increased from 453 horsepower to 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. The longer variant weighs 5,948 pounds unloaded, while the short-wheelbase model can reach 62 mph in 5.3 seconds. The power is transferred through a ZF eight-speed automatic.

The Body

A revolutionary all-aluminum spaceframe construction, 30% more stiff than the previous one, serves as the foundation for the Rolls-Royce model, the Phantom. Different propulsion types and weight needs for upcoming models, including the Ghost, Wraith, and Dawn, are accommodated by this innovative design. According to Rolls-Royce, this new design will enhance ride comfort and save weight, making it an essential part of the next coachbuild project and Project Cullinan.

The Suspensions

The new Phantom from Rolls boasts the latest-gen air suspension, four-wheel steering, and a new double-wishbone front and five-link rear axle. It is said to be 10% quieter than its predecessor, thanks to improved insulation, silent-seal tires with a foam layer, two-layer glazing, and the largest ever cast aluminum joints in a body-in-white. Rolls also confirmed that after road and vibration tests, an acoustics engineer had to check the instruments’ functionality due to the low sound levels.

The Cabins

The Gallery in the cabin features customized artwork that covers the full width of the dashboard, allowing for customization. Rolls, a renowned artist, has created various art pieces, including oil paintings, porcelain roses, silk abstract designs, and a gold-plated 3-D-printed map of an owner’s DNA. Taylor aims to give the motoring constant, which has served little purpose, space to breathe, by giving it a new purpose.

Final Words

Round chrome surrounds and digital instruments have replaced the antiquated physical gauges on the instrument cluster, giving the Phantom’s dash area a more contemporary look.Round chrome surrounds and digital instruments have replaced the antiquated physical gauges on the instrument cluster, giving the Phantom’s dash area a more contemporary look.
